With at least one Prime account, our household is a big user of Amazon. Almost every day, it seems, one or more packages arrive at our front door. Sometimes it’s (yet another) pair of sneakers for my son; at other times, it’s a fashion item for my wife or some hard-to-find kitchen items for me.

Lately, though, I’ve noticed a troubling trend. Instead of the boxes and paper envelopes of yore, the company has been using plastic bags. Some of them are padded and some not.
