PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (Callaway Climate Insights) — During the 2024 presidential campaign, Donald Trump made a lot of promises. Many of them, such as making America great again, were vague or subjective.
One particular pledge, however, stood out for its specificity and implausibility: Trump repeatedly vowed to slash energy costs by 50%.
“I will cut the price of energy and electricity in half, 12 months from January 20th,” he told the Detroit Economic Club shortly before the election. “I take office on January 20th, your electric bill — including cars, air conditioners, heating, everything — your total electric bill will be 50, five-oh, 50% less.”
In case you haven’t noticed, a year into Trump’s second term, that hasn’t happened.
